Samsung one of the well-known LCD Monitor maker has announced the launch of its new monitor namely, Samsung SyncMaster S27A850D. The SyncMaster S27A850D is 27 inches computer monitor made for the professional graphic artists. It is a monitor having a resolution of 2560×1,440 pixels and this is also the first computer panel from this manufacturer to have PLS or Plane Line Switching technology inside. This is not the same as IPS in In-Plane Switching that you see in a lot of monitors out there. Samsung says that PLS technology can you give you higher brightness at lower power consumption.
The corners of the Samsung SyncMaster S27A850D are quite sharp and the sleek aesthetic look is quite attractive. There is LED lighting on the panel and it is 25.2 inches in width and the depth is less than one inch. However, if you consider the section on the back which contains power adapter port, single DisplayPort, and two DVI ports, then the width increases to one inch more. On the left side, there are three USB 3.0 down stream, one USB 2.0 up stream, headphone jack, and audio in ports. These ports are aligned vertically. The back panel has alcove like cubby hold and this is where the power brick of the display is concealed. It helps you in wall mounting.Neck of the Samsung SyncMaster S27A850D is a thin and long cylinder along with cable router on back. Height of this monitor can be adjusted by 5.7 inches and on the panel’s bottom is 2.1 inches and 7.8 inches above desktop at the lowest and highest heights respectively. Food stand here is the biggest I have ever seen; it measures nine inches in depth and 14 inches in width. When knocked from sides, this monitor refused to bulge which isn’t unexpected considering the big foot stand.Side bezel of the Samsung SyncMaster S27A850D is really thin at 0.8 inch and bottom bezel curves a bit outward to add to the aesthetic looks. OSD array is in the middle of bottom bezel and it has six buttons in horizontal alignment – power button, Split Screen, Enter, Source/Up, Eco/Down, and Menu. In the button array’s middle, there is ambient light sensor and proximity sensor. The former turns the monitor off when there is no one in front of it and the latter is responsible for adjusting the brightness depending on the ambience.
OSD of the Samsung SyncMaster S27A850D is functional and aesthetic looking. It has features like Contrast, Brightness, RGB color controls, Sharpness, 6 different options for color temperature, gamma controls, over drive, and five different presets – Dynamic Contrast, Cinema, Game, Standard, and Custom. For power saving needs, there is the Eco Mode. You get to switch on motion timer here; it put the monitor to sleep if it doesn’t sense any movement for a specific time interval.Build quality of the Samsung SyncMaster S27A850D is pretty high. The overall thin design and the plastic neck makes it feel flimsier than what other monitors are in this size. The weight is just 15 pounds and this makes it easy to move around. I would recommend this monitor looking at its great overall performance and the useful assortment of options like three USB 3.0 ports.
